Exchange 2010 – Recover deleted items from Dumpster

The user simona.x managed to permanently delete (hard delete) an entire folder from Outlook. Can we recover her e-mails ?

Thanks to Microsoft Transport Dumpster, data is stored for 14 more days (or custom) in the dumpster, before being purged.

Get-Mailbox -Identity simona.x| Get-MailboxFolderStatistics -FolderScope RecoverableItems | Select Identity, ItemsInFolder, FolderSize, FolderType | List Identity, ItemsInFolder, FolderSize, FolderType

Identity      : DOMAIN.LOCAL/DOMAIN/DOMAIN Users/Simona X\Deletions
ItemsInFolder : 303
FolderSize    : 38.41 MB (40,270,872 bytes)
FolderType    : RecoverableItemsDeletions

Looks like there are 303 items that can be recovered. The following command will do it:

Search-Mailbox -Identity simona.x -SearchDumpsterOnly -TargetMailbox admin.x -Ta
rgetFolder simonaDumpster

Note: The source mailbox cannot be used as the target mailbox!
